Vinita and Naren Gupta P. ’16

Being Berkeley Loyal holds a lot of meaning for Vinita and Naren Gupta. “It means we’re helping to support and nourish a place we consider a national treasure,” Vinita said.

Since the time they shared why they support UC Berkeley, Naren Gupta has passed away.

The Guptas said being Berkeley Loyal also helps them celebrate fond memories of daughter Serena’s years at UC Berkeley and keeps them connected to the broader Cal community.

Serena Gupta ’16 currently teaches computer coding to underserved girls at Berkeley on weekends while working a full-time job in San Francisco. Serena studied math and computer science at Cal. The Guptas have another daughter, Anneka, who graduated from Stanford.

Vinita founded Digital Link Corporation and is the first woman of Indian origin to take her company public in the United States. Naren started Integrated Systems and is currently a founding partner of venture capital firm Nexus Venture Partners. The couple serves on numerous for profit and nonprofit boards and are advisers to entrepreneurs and corporate leaders worldwide.

“Philanthropic support is critical for Cal to continue to provide excellence in education, learning, and research,” Vinita said. “We are forever grateful for how much Serena in particular and society-at-large have benefitted from Cal’s exceptional commitment to excellence.”
